How to choose outfits for your Sexy Boudoir Shoot with Miss Monroe

So you’re thinking about doing a sexy boudoir shoot with Miss Monroe? How exciting for you! It’s so much fun to plan the process and imagine how amazing you are going to look. I understand it may seem overwhelming having to decide what to bring and how to prepare. If you’ve already read through my blog post here about preparing for your shoot you’ll see a few recommendations on what to bring, but I wanted to elaborate further with a few more ideas and inspirational images. First things first, what kind of images do you want to create?

Step 1. Decide what look suits you

Boudoir photography can be anything from sexy and sophisticated to cheeky and cute. It can be dark and sensual or light-hearted and fun. Ask yourself, how do I want to be portrayed? Think about how you see yourself and how your partner sees you. What are your favourite features and qualities? Or what does your lover say they admire most about you? Some adjectives you could use to describe your qualities and style are sweet, sultry, sensual, glamorous, flirty, or kinky. You could then use those words to go searching online for photos that fit your description. It’s a good idea to save the ones you find appealing to a Pinterest board such as this one.

You can find more photos on our gallery here that may help to inspire you. I also recommend following Miss Monroe on Facebook and Instagram so you can see more recent work. Make sure you share your inspirational images with me so I know exactly what kind of photos you want to create for your shoot.

Step 2. Go through your wardrobe

Once you’ve established what look or looks you are going for it’s time to see what you have to wear. Look at the clothing you’ve already got before going out and buying new outfits. Don’t forget the possibility of borrowing bits and pieces from your partner and friends! If you’ve decided you want some images that are sexy and sultry then you’ll definitely want to bring some lingerie. I suggest one or two bra and knickers sets with some accessories like stockings and suspender belts. Black and red are favourites but depending on your skin tone a splash of colour like green or blue is also lovely.

I recommend odysuits and baby doll teddies if you want a bit more coverage. A lace gown to throw over the top is great to cover up problem areas like tummies and thighs. Remember that high heels add a bit of glamour especially if you are wearing stockings.

If you are wanting to add a bit of your own personality to your sexy boudoir shoot then have a look at what you’ve got that really says something about you. Are you a bit kinky? If so, I suggest bringing some props like a pair of cuffs or a crop. Are you into comic books or heavy metal? Feel free to bring one a favourite t-shirt with a character or logo on it. If you are or your partner are particularly sporty then perhaps you could bring along either of yours football socks or soccer jersey. Or show off your hobbies by bringing along your skateboard or horse riding boots.

If there’s a particular theme you are going for then remember to bring along the accessories that will really make your theme obvious. For example if you want to highlight the fact that you are engaged then don’t forget to wear your engagement ring! Maybe bring along a veil, garter and your wedding jewellery as well. For pin-up style shoots you should bring a range of outfits and accessories like handbags, gloves, hats and sunglasses to add to the vintage feel. See the gallery below for more ideas for accessories that help define your style.

Step 3. What do you need to buy or borrow?

Hopefully by now you’ve found most of the things you need for your sexy boudoir shoot. If not then I guess that means it’s time to hit the shops! Before you go off and spend your hard-earned cash I would recommend seeing what you can borrow. I usually keep a range of accessories at the studio that are available for clients to use for their shoot. I have some lace gowns, stockings, suspender belts, shoes, corsets and fun props. I can’t possibly keep every size and colour so please check in with me first if there’s something in particular you want to use.

If you decide you really need to buy some new outfits and accessories then I have a few suggestions on where to buy from. If you want to indulge yourself you can find some amazing lingerie sets from stores such as Honey Birdette, but don’t dismiss the more affordable options. I have found some lovely things at places like Bras n Things, H&M and even Target. I also recommend checking out your local adult store for some accessories and lingerie. My favourite local store is Minxxx Adult Boutique in Charlestown. It has a range of exciting lingerie and fetishwear as well as high quality accessories that you can use in your photos and take home with you for fun in the bedroom later.

Of course there are many options to buy online but I find with lingerie it’s best to try them on in store and have a salesperson help you with fitting. It should always fit well enough to hold everything in place, giving good support and comfort, but never digging in and creating undesirable lumps and bumps.
