Headshots for Professionals

Not Just Boudoir!

It’s pretty obvious that boudoir photography is a specialty here at Miss Monroe. But did you know we can also offer headshots for professionals? And more than just headshots, we can help showcase your products and services, no matter what they are. We offer shoots for professionals in ALL industries! Here’s some tips for helping you plan for your professional branding photoshoot and headshots.

Step 1. Who Are You and What Are You Promoting?

This is an obvious step of course, but for some people it takes a little bit of consideration to decide whether they’re selling themselves, or a service.

If you’re a professional looking for the best corporate position you can find then obviously it’s all about you! You’ll just need some headshots that show you as you are- professional, approachable and capable. Your headshots might be just a plan white background with even, flattering lighting, or you can shoot in your office. Want some inspiration? I recommend checking out other professionals in your industry on linkedin.

If you are a creative keen to show off your talents then you might want something less serious and more fun, artsy or quirky. You can have a lot more choice in wardrobe, location and posing, so it’s a good idea to put together an inspiration board before booking your shoot. Pinterest is a great way to start putting together a vision board!

If you have products to showcase you’ll need to decide if you need models to use them or if the products will be on their own. Do you need to show how to use them? Do they need context or are they best just displayed on a plain background? Will you be included in the images as well? So much to think about!

Step 2. Describe Your Brand

Here’s the fun part. Your professional headshots are your own- that means you can get to decide how you want to be portrayed.

What are some words or feelings that you associate with your brand and how can we incorporate them into your shoot? If you aren’t sure how to describe yourself or your brand, you can find a whole bunch of inspirational adjectives here.

Headshots for professionals don’t always have to be serious and boring. They can be fun, playful, quirky, creative, approachable, informal, conversational, relaxed, moody, soft, sensual, exciting, comedic, flirty or just about anything! Describing your brand will help the photographer to create images that reflect your personality and professional style.

Step 3. Where To Shoot Your Professional Headshots

Location is vital when choosing how to showcase yourself and your products or services.

Headshots for professionals in the corporate world are usually shot on a plain white or grey background, but it’s also great to include some photos inside the office or location of your work.

For creatives you could choose just about anything! I do recommend a couple of different options such as some plain background headshots as well as some that show you at work, doing what you do best.

Of course your phtoographer should be able to offer great advice and ideas if you are unsure what locations to choose.

Step 4. Wardrobe!

For some people this is the fun part, and for others it’s very daunting. It may be easy if you have a uniform you wear every day to work, but for others there is much more to consider. Obviously you want to choose something that is flattering for your body type. I recommend doing some online searches to find tips on clothing styles that suit your shape, such as the advice found here. Of course it’s your body so wear whatever you feel good in! We’re all different so there’s no one outfit I can recommend for everyone. Then you should consider what the location is and what suits the background. If you’re choosing an all-white backdrop for example, I would recommend wearing darker colours so you stand out from the background. If you’re going to be shooting at the beach then you might consider something casual, like bare feet or sandals, rather than a full business suit and closed-in shoes.

Next you will need to consider how your clothing reflects your brand. Quirky and creative brands can wear just about anything they want! But if you’re formal and serious then your outfits should look the same.

Makeup & Accessories

If you’re female you might want your makeup and/or hair done professionally to help you feel more confident. We have an in-house artist we can recommend if you wish. You can see some of our makeover transformations here.

It’s also important to choose accessories carefully. For example, you might want to keep your clothing simple but add some bright, fun earrings to lighten the mood slightly. Shoes are also important to consider as they can add an extra hint of personality to your images as well.

Lastly, bring several options so we can pick and choose on the day! There’s nothing wrong with bringing a whole suitcase along!
